Inouye, Ryu

The Inouye family was at Topaz for about a year from 1942 to 1943 before they were once again forced to move, this time to Tule Lake. Ryu was three to four years old in Topaz, the youngest of three children at the time. She has vague memories of going to school and doing art work. “I think some of my drawings were about the war, battlefield scenes with planes flying around.  I think I was influenced by Life magazine photos and the general atmosphere of the camp.”
